Mike Jones, President

Mike is a native Houstonian and the father of four sons. Mike received his degree in aeronautical science and aviation, and became a commercial multi-engine, instrument-rated airplane pilot as well as a commercially rated helicopter pilot. He flew with Continental Airlines before he moved on to pilot helicopters for the Houston Police Department fulfilling a childhood dream. During his tenure with the Houston Police Department, Mike created the nationally recognized not-for-profit organization called Soul Patrol and received many awards and accolades for the significant positive impact on the community. Some of these awards include honors from both President George Bush (41st) and President Bill Clinton. He was the first recipient of the Sylvan Rodriquez Role Model of the Year Award, and he was also awarded Officer of the Year four times during his twelve year tenure at the Houston Police Department. Mike retired from the police department in 1998 and co-founded Discover Leadership Training, Inc.

Mike has authored 5 books. His most recent book, Unreasonable Possibilities, inspires readers to get out of their comfort zones and choose to truly live life rather than just exist. Mike is also a motivational speaker and is a favorite keynote speaker for his unique way of engaging an audience.

He lives his passion and shares his enthusiasm for life every day as President of the company. The outcomes of our trainings are based upon the principles and techniques that had proven successful in the programs he conducted for young people, educators, and parents. In his spare time Mike enjoys fishing, running, cycling, and traveling to sporting events with his sons.

 

Barb Moses, Vice President

Barb was born and raised in Minnesota. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Accounting from Moorhead State University. When Barb came to Discover Leadership Training in 2009; she brought with her more than 20 years of experience in the business community. Most of those years were with Service Corporation International (SCI) where her primary responsibility was to lead their Corporate University and Leadership Development areas. After leaving SCI, Barb fulfilled a personal dream and started her own leadership consulting company.

After a very successful first year, she decided to truly follow her purpose and joined Discover Leadership Training full time. Now Barb also puts her corporate training expertise into action by leading Discover’s Corporate Development Team. Barb is also a certified corporate and leadership trainer. In her spare time Barb enjoys running, cycling, reading, and most recently found a passion for snowboarding.

 

Grechel Kelley, Facilities Manager

Grechel has a unique history as the daughter of an Air Forceman growing up in Italy and Alaska. She is now a resident of Houston, TX and the mother of 3 daughters and one grandson. Grechel began working with Mike Jones back in 1994 as a member of the Soul Patrol team. She spent many years using her energetic, optimistic & inspirational attitude creating Unreasonable Possibilities for the young people Soul Patrol touched.

Since 2007, Grechel continues to make her positive impact at Discover Leadership Training as the Facilities Manager. She brings a 100% contribution into everything she does, from perfecting recipes and serving the most health-conscious, delectable meals, to providing her team with the most efficient and productive quality of service. She shares her smile with each individual she encounters and immediately captivates and leaves a lasting imprint on them.

During her personal time, Grechel continues to challenge herself to go beyond excellence by expanding her physical abilities and taking her piano playing skills to the next level. Whether at work or play, Grechel is committed to live life on purpose and be a part of the 3% who create Unreasonable Possibilities.

 

Karol Hartzell, Marketing Coordinator

Karol was born and raised in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania. In 1998, she attended her first leadership training class while working for Wetherill Associates, Inc. as a Graphic Designer. She knew at that moment her life would never be the same. She immediately wanted to get involved in the amazing things happening and the spent the next several years using vacation time and long weekends travelling to Houston volunteering time with Soul Patrol and Discover Leadership Training.

Karol realized that to live her purpose in life she would need to take some big risks and in 2001, she made the 1500 mile journey to live in Houston and work full time for Discover Leadership Training. Over her many years with Discover, Karol’s determination and flexibility to learn new things has allowed her to fulfill many roles from administrative and logistics to sales and marketing. Currently Karol supports the Discover team by leading special projects, graphic design, class coordination and marketing projects.

In her spare time, Karol enjoys reading, writing, painting, cycling, watching movies and eating sushi. Karol is committed to be a positive role model and volunteers her time coaching a high school girl’s lacrosse team.

 

Tina Skrove, Sales Assistant

Tina, a native Minnesotan, became a Master Graduate in 2006 and , later that same year, moved to Texas to join the Discover Leadership Training staff. She has occupied several positions with the company over the years. In her current role as Sales Assistant, she is passionate about supporting the sales staff to support our clients, creating win/win solutions for everyone.

In her personal life, Tina enjoys playing full-out with her daughter and two boys.   She enjoys spending time with them playing at the park, going on nature walks, and conducting frequent dance parties. They are continually showing her the value and reinforcing the benefits of living her life “out loud”.

 

Johnnie Krenek, Running Cougar Ranch Manager

Johnnie is a lifelong resident of Austin County, growing up on a farm in Wallis. Johnnie graduated from Southwest Texas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and began teaching math and coaching in Sealy, TX. In 2009, Johnnie retired after 31 years of teaching (all of which were in Sealy). Soon after retiring from teaching Johnnie decided to take on Running Cougar Ranch as his next challenge and has kept the grounds at the ranch immaculate ever since.

Johnnie and his wife, Marilyn have been married for more than 31 years and they have 3 sons, Greg, Matt and Jeffrey. In his spare time he enjoys playing cards or dominoes and dealing craps or blackjack at casino parties. Johnnie also enjoys sports, working with cattle and gardening.

 

Robbie L. Pape, Assistant Trainer

Robbie is a part-time trainer with Discover Leadership Training. She works full-time for Service Corporation International and was recently promoted to Sr. Managing Director of Service & Support. Robbie has been with SCI 19+ years. Robbie is also active in the local community and is the recent past president of the Baylor University Women’s Association of Houston.

Robbie is single and has a seven year old daughter, Samantha (Sam). Robbie is proud to have raised Sam with all of the powerful learning’s she’s taken from her time with Discover Leadership Training. One of Samantha’s favorite things to say when she’s scared is… “I have COURAGE mommy… that means I’ll face the fear and do it anyway!” She and Sam spend every weekend exploring parks, seeing movies and, of course, being goofy, which seems to be Sam’s specialty!
